I called it; as soon as I saw the Eagle Eye trailer, I knew we had another 'AI gone rampant' movie on our hands.

An AI which, in fact, looks and sounds a LOT like GLaDOS sometimes.

However, that's not to dismiss the movie as bad or entirely derivative. It probably is both those things, at least to a certain extent, but it  has some saving graces to it. There are nuances to the plot that---gasp---make sense. The motivation of the AI is both more interesting than "gone insane" and is foreshadowed. The ending is actually interesting, though there are a few aspects I think they did wrong.

My primary gripe with the rest of the movie is simply that the lead FBI agent is sometimes more stupid than badass; actually, he was the weakest character in many ways. I think the problem was more on the writing/directing end, rather than the acting, but I sometimes winced at his delivery.

I suppose there were also a few events that felt too coincidence-heavy/disjointed from the reality of the movie, but they were relatively few; overall, a surprisingly good movie with an ending-message I'm happy to see :-)
Blessed be,

I started humming still alive halfway through the movie. Very much portal-esque.

Ending message: Shoot up, get shot. DO NOT MESS WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

But I agree with you about all of that. Amusingly, I thought I was the only one... er one of two... Geno also thought that.

Anyway.

I got the ending message to be that quote at the end, about how (to paraphrase) 'sometimes the measures we put in place to protect our country wind up doing more good than harm,' making the movie a criticism of things like the Patriot Act.
